Are you interested in learning how to play Blues or Boogie Woogie Piano? Have you played piano all your life but were never able to get away from what’s written on the page? Are you a skilled piano player interested in incorporating Boogie Woogie and Blues into your repertoire?


I can help!


With over 15 years of experience teaching at all skill levels, I can help you achieve your dream of playing Boogie Woogie and Blues piano in a much shorter time than you probably think. With consistent dedication and hard work, in addition to a once a week lesson schedule, my students can usually achieve hand coordination within the first 2 weeks and hand independence within the first 3 months. By 6 months my students usually feel that they have a good grasp of the basics of Boogie Woogie and Blues piano and can continue their studies on their own by listening to records and learning by ear (even if they have never played by ear before coming to me).

Here’s what we cover:


  1. Bullet Common left hand patters in both Blues and Boogie Woogie styles

  2. Bullet Common right hand licks/riffs and understanding their variations

  3. Bullet Achieving left hand independence so that the right hand is free to improvise

  4. Bullet Ear Training and playing by ear

  5. Bullet Improvisation

  6. Bullet Playing solo and with a band

  7. Bullet Music Theory - as it applies to what we are studying


We do not use sheet music, we learn by “oral tradition”, the same way that I was taught by numerous Blues and Boogie players throughout the years. I believe in explaining things and breaking them down in a way that YOU can understand. I don’t believe in keeping students for years; it’s my goal to get you playing the way you want to play as soon as possible.


Here’s what you need to bring to each lesson:


  1. Bullet A recording device

  2. Bullet Blank notebook paper to take notes on

  3. Bullet A good attitude - be ready to challenge yourself and have fun!


My Rates are:


  1. Bullet $50 / hr (you come to me)

  2. Bullet $40 / hr Skype


Payment for in person lessons can be by cash or personal check. For Skype lessons I can accept Paypal, Google Checkout or personal check. I am currently located in Brooklyn, one block off the L Train Halsey stop.
